What a nice day today!
I had something more interesting than this post planned, but at the time my cat was stretched lazily across my chest, so I was immobile. Now, catless, I've kind of forgotten. That's the way it goes, I suppose.
Went for a hike today along the trail a few miles from home. It starts with a lake, full of reeds and somewhat belligerent geese. That's a nice place to sit: benches, squirrels slowly encroaching on your personal space, the occasional overeager dog, nice weather. Hikes aren't really stationary, though, so we slipped off onto the dirt trail and were almost immediately greeted by a dog. Entirely unsurprising, really, but cute still.
The path starts off a bit on a higher slope, and all along the left side walking in are massive mustard plants, maybe 4 or 5 feet tall. On the way back, we cut through a small footpath trodden between the mustard, and I was careful to hold my hand against the green and the flowers that seemed determined to overtake the path again.
It's all dirt and massive trees, crushed branches and the such. Back when we used to go here, tucked away in one part of the woods was an unauthorized forest library. Books were packed into plastic tupperware on a homemade wooden bookshelf. Little decorations were hung on trees. My dad says that a local school put it there, but it's gone now - it was never approved, and either way, the slow methods of the weather had not done it well. The trail feels a bit weirder without it.
He showed me other parts, all of which essentially I've seen before: the fence protecting the nature reserve (which, apparently, my sister and her ex boyfriend snuck onto), a bench facing the river, a new bridge recently added. There was a small dragonfly on that bridge. Very cute, until my dad made me aware that they're essentially vicious bug carnivores. Guess that I'm glad I'm not a bug!
After the hike, we went to get food. A place called The Money Pit. Small-ish, but busy. It's one of those incredibly heavily decorated restaurants, and apparently it has a drive through despite being neither a Starbucks nor a fast food joint. We sat down though, and I should clarify - I've eaten there before, but it's been a while. The food was alright, but it was nice to go get food with my dad.
And now, I'm just relaxing. I didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night; heartburn or something anxiety-type gave me chest pain, which made me pretty freaky and anxious. Almost fell asleep right after I took my morning shower today.
I think I'll get good sleep tonight.
Hope you all are doing well, regardless.
